Introduction

Hello I would just like to introduce the Settle and District Pub Quiz League. My name is Stewart Kemp and I am the "Settle & District Quiz League" League Secretary.
We formed in 1996 after the Maypole Inn Quiz team of the Ribblesdale Quiz League decided enough was enough of forays into deepest darkest Lancashire on cold wintry evenings to such dangerous far flung destinations as Downham, Rimmington, Pimlico, Clitheroe, Whalley, Ribchester and Chipping in the Ribblesdale Quiz League. So over a pint or Three of Roberts finest Ales in the Maypole Inn taproom, we formed the cunning plan of starting our own League.
So it was from humble beginnings the embryonic Settle and District was born. Contacting all local hostelries within a ten mile radius of Settle we got 6 Pubs, The Maypole Inn (obviously) of Long Preston, The New Inn of Clapham, The Plough of Wigglesworth, The Game Cock of Austwick, The Bowerley of Langcliffe and The Golden Lion of Horton in Ribblesdale (the last three sadly departed the league).
We played each other three times that first season, and the New Inn won the League (this was something they continued to do over the next couple of years until the Victoria came along and broke their stranglehold).
We also now started our version of the FA cup with our Knockout Handicap Trophy in 1997/98 season (sadly no European place is awarded to the winners though)
Teams came in, The (aforementioned) Victoria of Kirkby Malham, The Harts Head Hotel of Giggleswick and the Black Horse of Hellifield. The Maypole now acquired a B team, we lost the Bowerley and Black Horse when they closed and became further statistics on the wall of Pub closures. The Golden Lion and Game Cock left, and the Harts Head now also acquired a B team. Those observant amongst you may have noticed something missing from the Settle and District Quiz League!!!!!!!!! Yes you have got it we had no actual team from a Settle Pub!!!!!!!!.
Well a couple of seasons ago that changed when we welcomed into the ranks The Falcon Manor, so now we can truly call our selves The Settle and District Quiz League.
We welcomed the Boars Head Hotel from Long Preston a couple of seasons ago. After losing the Plough Inn team.
We also have League Sponsorship, I negotiated this in a multimillion-pound deal (well 50p and a packet of pork scratchings actually) in the shape of GSK 24hr Locksmiths of Long Preston.
Thanks also go to "21st Century Quiz" of Formby for the supply of questions each Monday night through the winter. Its a fun evening out on cold miserable winter evenings, yes the Questions may be a little harder than the average Sunday evening fun quiz but its surprising what you find out you actually know .................................
